To address young female athletes most in need by removing barriers to participation; including but not limited to, availability of club programs, scholarships, transportation to events etc

“Thanks for all your help this year Nyla. You and Houston Juniors have really been a blessing to our family this year. Chetina has come out of her shell, and she is doing quite well in a short period of time. Your support through your program has really made it possible for Chetina to be a part of something really big and we just wanted you to know how very much we appreciate you for all you have done. See you Friday.

Thanks again for everything,”
Chann D.

Based in Houston, Texas, the Women’s Sports Initiative is a newly founded 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. It exists specifically to expand the opportunities available to disadvantaged young female athletes (between the ages of 12 and 18) to participate in off season athletics principally in the areas of volleyball, basketball and track. Its mission is to address the young female athletes most in need by removing the barriers that exist to participation; including but not limited to, availability of club programs, scholarships, transportation to events etc.

Participation in off season athletics for females is shown to significantly enhance the individual’s health, physical abilities, sense of pride in self, cooperativeness and sense of respect for others. In addition, research shows there is a direct correlation to improved academic performance, college admittance and participation in college sports and reduced teen pregnancy and teen drug/alcohol related involvement.
